   Any inflammation of the joints,
         including the gout. A variety
   of forms of arthritis are
         recognized, some of which (such as
   rheumatoid
         arthritis, also called arthritis deformans and
  
         arthritis
         nodosa) are chronic and progressive, and lead

   incapacitation and deformity.
